Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This letter is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts. -2 Cor. 3:2-3
In this world of cell phones, texting, and email, letter writing is perhaps a lost art. For most of our history, the letter was a treasured, as well as critical, form of communication. Paul writes that the Church is like a letter, communicating to the world all it can know about our wonderful Lord. He expresses that the Church is us not only those who say that Jesus Christ is the Savior and King, but all who infuse His life into our own, speak His love through our lives when there can be no words, and reach out for relationships beyond borders, barricades and blockades.
The Church is not bound by pen and ink, bits and bytes, bricks and mortar – because it really exists primarily in the heart, secured only by the Spirit of God.
