A Christian Paradox

Jesus called a little child to Him and put the child among them. Then He said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.  So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.  – Matthew 18:2-3

It is a great paradox in Christianity that it makes humility the avenue to glory, that “the first shall be last,” and that the greatest among us must be the servant of all.  In His time, Jesus’ teachings turned the world upside down, and we still struggle today with how simple childlike faith and submission can lead us to a place in the Father’s eternal arms.  Through fasting, prayer and obedience beyond our will, we shed our grown up pride and power, and learn the true meaning of His gift of grace.
