Cheryl Johnson Barton: Journey of Praise
July 9, 2011 by Worship Director.
The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all His creation. All of Your works will thank you, Lord, and Your faithful followers will praise You. They will speak of the glory of Your kingdom; they will give examples of Your power. They will tell about Your mighty deeds and about the majesty and glory of Your reign. For Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps His promises; He is gracious in all He does. The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads. - Psalm 145:8-14
Excerpt from Steady Till Sunset by Cheryl Johnson Barton:
“Many times during my cancer journey I have recalled Habakkuk’s astounding words of praise…I, too, declare that I will rejoice in the Lord - no matter what a medical test reveals or a doctor tells me, no matter the length of the journey nor its eventual outcome, no matter what. One year into my cancer journey as I was walking from the hospital to the train station, the Lord reminded me once again that He is worthy of praise - no matter what. It was a gentle reminder, but pointed nevertheless. The news from the doctor hadn’t been good since the latest CT scan showed that the tumor growing in the vacuum where my left kidney had been was now even bigger. It seemed the medicine was no longer effectively fighting the cancer that had recurred. I’d have preferred different news. But int he short five-minute walk to the train station, the Lord reminded me that He is yet God, yet in control, yet omniscient, yet omnipresent and still the same yesterday, today and forever. He reminded me that He is still carrying me in His arms and most worthy of praise. I recalled my decision of years ago to praise Him in all circumstances and I determined once again to obey.”
Cheryl Johnson Barton, missionary and servant of God, went home to be with her Lord June 26, 2011. The Wings of a Sunset Moth
July 6, 2011 by Worship Director.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. - James 1:17
Treasure hunting in the insect world for the spectacular Sunset Moth, is well worth the time invested. From different angles, shifting positions, its movement displays an array of fascinating colors. However, the wings of a Sunset Moth don’t actually have any pigmentation. The colors are a refraction of light from micro-ribbon in the wings. When we take time to explore our world from the microscopic to astronomic, we begin to comprehend God’s extensive imagination.
In further thought, God didn’t leave us living in a world where we just sat in wonder and amazement of His completed works. He gave us the gift of imagination. Where would we have been if Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and many other great inventors chose to hold on to their gifts?
What are your gifts? Can you teach? Would your talent be the foundation in Christ that a young leader needs? Are you gifted in prayer? Are you the answer to the hope of those in need? How about encouragement? Are you the light in someone’s dark world? These are simple gifts, but important seeds. Will someone in the future refer to you as their seedling of success?

Freely Given, Freely Give
July 4, 2011 by Worship Director.
Give as freely as you have received! - Matthew 10:8
We have so much in America. Most of us have incredibly more than most of the people in the world: more currency, more opportunity, more freedom. Many of us take all this for granted –we work hard for it – we deserve it. Yet, let’s pause for just a moment this Independence Day, to acknowledge that the freedom we enjoy is not free. That many throughout our history risked everything, indeed paid all, to build the legacy we inherited – some we know, many we don’t.
The most precious gifts are those we don’t deserve, like God’s grace or the freedoms we enjoy by someone else’s sacrifice. The best we can do is to live a life of gratitude; humble in our acceptance of these gifts and generous in extending to others the blessings that we have been graciously granted.
