Trouble Again

Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water….Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” He said. “Take courage. I am here!”  – Matthew 14:24-27

“Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble…”  Does that sound familiar?

Isn’t that the way it is? We’ve gotten ourselves into trouble again, put our foot in our mouths, taken the wrong turn, and found ourselves hanging on by the skin of our teeth. Some things never change. Thankfully, the other certainty is that our God is always there to rescue us.  He may have to walk on water to reach us, but nothing will keep Him from His children in need.

We are going to make mistakes.  It is in our nature.  Remember that when we depend on “our ship coming in,” it just may sink if we’ve put our faith in its cargo instead of in the One who Rules the Sea, keeping the boat afloat.  Don’t be afraid – He is here.
