Sound Doctrine

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. – 1 Timothy 4:16

“Doctrine” is a body of teachings, the whole of a philosophy or principle. It is the sum total of the spoken words, the recorded history, the content and context of a belief.  It is the foundation on which we can trust without fear of it shifting beneath our feet.

From the Old Testament through the New Covenant, God warns to hold fast to His doctrine – unchanging, unwavering, unmovable. From the earliest days, contradicting perceptions, unproven theories, self-serving interpretations that do not stand the test of time or consistency, intrude on His truth.  We are charged to persevere in the spiritual security of our doctrine as surely as we guard our physical lives.  It requires constant vigilance and seeking to weigh all the information that bombards us from all sides throughout each day.  Hold firm to sound doctrine!
