Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. -Luke 18:1 (NIV)
Prayer is not one-way communication. Someone is always on the other end of the line and a response will come. Between you and God, there is never a dropped call, never a bad connection, never a declined call sent to voice mail. Whether the subject is praise, confession, intercession or a personal request, He always hears and begins formulating an answer.
It is our impatience, our instant messaging, answer now expectation that prompts us so often to give up on the call. Noah waited nearly a hundred years for the promised rains to come. Hannah went to the temple year after year after year to pray for a child which eventually resulted in the birth of Samuel. What we call a miracle may just be prayer come to fruition on God’s time.
Persistence and patience are the wireless links between worlds, from the mortal into the immortal dimension, reaching beyond the speed of light and sound. Don’t hang up, don’t give up – Jesus is waiting on the line for you.
