Big is Small

After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. -1 Kings 19:12

We are bombarded by all the terrible, disastrous, heart-breaking occurrences from across the world in 30 second news bytes day in and day out. Natural catastrophes and man-made evil overwhelm our personal interchanges and dominate coffee shop conversations. The nonbeliever asks us, “Where is God in all this?”

He is in us. He is that small, still voice that moves us to do what is right in hard situations, to pray for our enemies even in war, to give our all though it may cost us everything. He is an intimate God in the details, not a capricious creator of chaos. It is in smallness that we sense His greatness.
