So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. -Ephesians 2:19 (NLT)
Family is important to our God. In the Old Testament, He is known and owned through generations of family genealogies. He placed His Son into one of those families where He would be loved and nurtured into adulthood. In the New Testament, we see how steadfastly Jesus loved and cared for His mother, but also how He extended the definition of “family” beyond the bonds of blood to the reach of love. Outsiders no more. Everyone is invited inside, not as “company” where we clean out the corners, shine the surfaces and put on our best behaviors, but where we can accept each other with all our grime and faults exposed. No family is perfect, but we can hope to be perfected when we make our final journey home.
