The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor… -Isaiah 61: 1-2
Last year is gone. “Good riddance” some of us would say. If we look back honestly, every year is filled with sorrows and joy, achievement and disappointment, but our puny human brains generally only remember the highest highs, and more often, the lowest lows. The struggles, the tears, the losses more than the gains summarize 365 days in less than a moment.
Let’s not forget that every year, every day that passed, every moment we endured or watched fly by, was in the company of a God that loves us, suffered for us, and waits for us to take His hand, lean on Him, and walk with Him through whatever the future brings. Rejoice! This is the year of the Lord’s favor! Let’s live like we believe it.
