… He [Jesus] rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at Him intently. Then He began to speak to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!” -Luke 4:20-21 (NLT)
The year of God’s favor had been promised, proclaimed and eagerly awaited, but it seemed to be hidden away in the Holy of Holies where only the priests could see it. The year of Jubilee came only every 50 years when debts were forgiven and slaves set free, so people could only experience it perhaps once or twice in a lifetime. God’s favor was hardly anywhere to be found, until this day when Jesus visited the synagogue and left no doubt that God was in the house and His favor had come to stay. Still today, God’s excessive kindness, unfair partiality and preferential treatment is all around us, now and forever. With His favor available to us every day, we can do anything.
