Grasping for Love

Ephesians 3:17b-19
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Grasping the immense nature of God’s love takes “power.” It is not easy to love unconditionally, it takes work to overcome the fear of the unknown others, it is beyond the understanding of our finite human minds. To “grasp” is to reach out and seize, to clutch tightly, and hold firmly; so is our struggle to touch the nature of God’s heart and to pull down a handful of His passion for every person and creature that He formed from the depths of His immeasurable love.

Comprehending this truth starts with each of us, but takes all of us, together, to internalize its magnitude and meaning and then live it every day, everywhere, with everyone else.
