Embrace Your Past

Joseph said, “Within three days, you’ll be giving Pharaoh his cup just as you used to do when you were his Cup Bearer. Only remember me when things are going well with you again.” – Genesis 40:12-14

The Cup Bearer did not remember Joseph as he promised. Things were going well – and he forgot. We all sometimes have “fuzzy” memories – recalling only the portion of our past which best serves our needs of the moment.

How many stories in the Bible demonstrate that people repeatedly forget God in the good times, and turn to Him only when things are at their worst? As Christians, we must remember both God’s generous gifts, as well as, painful lessons in order to grow and improve our walk with Him. Happiness comes not from a pain free life, but from a life which is free from repeating the pain of the past.

Embrace your history – the best and the worst – and also welcome the future with arms open wide.
