Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord… – 2 Kings 19:14-15 (NIV)
We’ve all received bad news. Whether particular to our personal lives or shared on a global scale, we are all effected by bad news. What we do with those sad, disappointing or devastating messages determines whether the impact is to be deeply depressed or firmly impressed. If we believe we are merely pawns of the world, blown by the winds of change and unable to intervene or effect what happens to and around us, we are indeed lost.
Hezekiah chose a different perspective. When he received bad news he took it straight to God, holding nothing back, and expected his prayers to make a difference. He knew no news was bigger than what the God of Good News could handle.
