But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him. – 2 Kings 3:15
In the Psalms, the writer says that God inhabits the praises of His people. Where there is praise, He is in its midst. King David, who wrote many of the psalms, knew how praising God – regardless of his circumstances – changes everything. Whether in his sorrow or his sin, he sang praises to bring relief and redemption.
While a gifted musician, he knew that it was not only the beautiful sounds that pleased God, but anyone’s “joyful noise” of praise. It doesn’t take talent or skill, power or wisdom, for the Lord to embrace us – it is only in a heart of praise that He will make His home. So, call for a musician, play a CD, whistle to the rhythm of nature or sing with the birds – make a joyful noise and experience how praise can change things in your life!
