First Love

…you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you have left your first love. – Revelation 2:3-4 (NASB)

Remember your first love? Your heart beat faster in anticipation of your Love’s appearance. The hours flew by as you shared every detail of the day. The briefest separation brought a pain that could only be relieved by your loved one’s return. Such love motivates us to do our best, the most, and as much as we can to demonstrate our affection.

Yet if the spark fades away, we may continue to “go through the motions,” but the fire is gone. We can wear a mask, but we can’t hide our true feelings…especially not from an omnipotent God. It is, after all, our love that He desires more than our deeds; our lives more than sacrifices. Are you still living your first love?
