Global Mission Loss
April 18, 2012 by Worship Director.
It is with deep sorrow that Church of God Global Missions shares with you the news of a tragic accident involving the Kurrle family, missionaries to Paraguay. Julie Kurrle, missionary, along with their son, Timmy, were killed in an automobile accident in Encarnación, Paraguay, at 5:10 a.m April 14, 2012. Norberto and their daughter survived the accident. Anahí, the young daughter, is presently hospitalized.
The Kurrles have been missionaries to Paraguay with Global Missions since 2002.Norberto has worked with a Christian radio station and in discipleship programs in the city of Obligado where they lived. Julie initiated, developed, and directed the Children of Promise sponsorship program in Paraguay from 2004 – 2010. Her heart for the children of Paraguay compelled her to work tirelessly on behalf of those in need. She was affectionately and respectfully loved by the sponsored children and their families. She was greatly loved by the congregations in which she worked. Julie was instrumental in selecting and training the present director of the sponsorship program for Children of Promise. Julie was an ordained minister in the Church of God.
Please join us in prayer for Norberto, Anahí, and the extended families, as well as the Church of God in Paraguay and the children and families of Children of Promise in Paraguay. The Church of God has lost an outstanding church stateswoman, pastor, and missionary, as well as a vibrant young boy.

Making Room at the Ladies Christmas Brunch
December 5, 2011 by Worship Director.
The Ladies Christmas Brunch, hosted at Community Bible Fellowship on December 3, 2011, was a beautiful time for ladies “of all ages” to spend time together kicking off this festive season. While using the national Christian Women Connection program titled “Making Room” we learned about Las Posadas, which represents the journey of Mary and Joseph who found “no room in the inn.” Traditional Mexican foods and beverages were served and several of the women of our congregation shared their own Las Posadas experiences.
To infuse an Austin connection, Sandy Alcala, Executive Director of the local nonprofit “Con Mi Madre,” shared about their work with Hispanic mothers and daughters to strengthen educational opportunities for this growing sector of our population. Guests attending the Brunch brought gifts and gift cards to support the Con Mi Madre Wish List. The more we learn, the more we know, and the more we are able to reach out and open our hearts to the needs in our communities.
On December 18, we will participate in the Christ Birthday Observance, sponsored by the national Christian Women Connection of the Church of God. An offering will be raised at that time to support the important missions and missionaries - both at home and around the world - through this special collection. You are invited to participate as you “make room” for Jesus this season and spread His message of love.

COG in Angola Nearly Registered!
November 2, 2011 by Worship Director.
Jim and Dulci Doty, missionaries to Luanda, Angola, report that, “The Church of God in Angola is in the process of finalizing the documentation for registration of the church in Angola. It has been a difficult road but we are optimistic that registration can be obtained in the next few weeks. We need to provide identification of all the members such as ID Cards, Birth Certificates, or Drivers Licenses and have them authenticated by a notary. We will process several thousand identification documents in the next week or so to be able to present them to the Ministry of Justice for registration of the church.
Of course there is some expense for the church to process the IDs with a notary which we expect to be about $700 to $1000 usd to complete the authentication which is actually a discount over the actual cost. We appreciate your prayers and support.”
If you would like to help with the expenses for this important step for the church in Angola, you may contact:
Church of God Ministries
Project ID: 42.30991
Be sure to mark for “Angola COG Missions”
You may also contact CBF to make donations to this ministry. Let’s be sure to continue to support these missionaries and their mission in our prayers!

Singing Along With Steve Archer
October 18, 2011 by Worship Director.
Those who were at Community Bible Fellowship for the Steve Archer Concert Sunday morning, were truly blessed by being there. Steve’s personal testimony and personable style made for a rich experience of praise, worship and introspection of the heart. We’ll still be singing along with Steve all week and beyond as he encouraged the crowd to “make a joyful noise” with him in beautiful tunes and lyrics with which he led us.
While beginning ministry with his musical family in the 70’s, he is just as engaging, just as relevant, just as real as in what seem to be distant days. His amazing tenor voice is just as clear and strong as ever. The rock-n-rollers of his day, who are still hitting the reunion stages, would be ecstatic to be in such fine form — but they don’t come close. God’s gifts never fade, but get better and better with time. Whatever the style or form - from R&B to gospel to contemporary or Caribbean beats - Steve moved seamlessly between them all.
Whereas Steve regularly fills huge churches and concert halls across the world, it was a rare gift to spend a morning with such a talent and gentle spirit, in such an intimate setting. We all had the precious opportunity to talk with, pray with, and feel a kinship to our new friend and sibling in the family of Christ.
Steve’s latest CD, “Call It Grace,” is available on iTunes, along with many other of his other solo works. You will want to make it part of your music library, to park it in your heart, and take it with you wherever you go.”
If you couldn’t make it to the concert, you can enjoy it in the rebroadcast on the Community Bible Fellowship website for the next month. On the Local Ministry page, look on the left side bar under “Listen to Worship” for the October 16 link. Enjoy!

Steve Archer Comes to CBF!
October 8, 2011 by Worship Director.
Join us Sunday morning, October 16, 2011 at 10:45am for the musical ministry of STEVE ARCHER.
You will be blessed!
“He’s singing better than ever and ministering out of a heart that has been seasoned and effected by life change…And all that is only surpassed by a mutual heart and passion for broken people.”
Check out his music here
Steve’s Bio:
Born in Southern California and raised throughout the Golden State, Steve Archer grew up in a very musical family. His earliest musical experience came at the age of nine when he and his brothers began singing together for the sheer joy of it. “We would sing in my dad’s church” he recalls, “and when I was thirteen, my brother, Tim and I entered the Teen Talent Search and won second place nationally. That success inspired us to form our own group, ‘The Archer Brothers.’ We were still in school, so it was a part-time effort.” After graduation however, Steve was able to turn his full attention to his music career, and that he did! With the addition of Nancy Short (later replaced by their sister, Janice), they became known as “The Archers”. They were one of the first ensembles to perform what was later to be known as contemporary Christian music.
The group toured extensively, both in the United States and abroad, performing at a number of auspicious events, including one at the White House, for President and Mrs. Carter. Many television appearances followed, including the Jerry Lewis Telethon, the Easter Seal Telethon, a home-video series entitled America’s Music and their own half-hour television show produced by, and aired on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. In 1980, The Archers participated in a project entitled “The Lord’s Prayer,” a musical written by Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire. Their performance earned the group a Grammy Award and an appearance on the Grammy telecast. The following year they were again invited to appear on the show, as their album “Spreadin’ Like Wildfire” was nominated. After ten years and seven albums with The Archers, Steve embarked upon a solo career.
Steve’s second album, “Through His Eyes” established him as an important solo artist. The title tune jumped to #1 on the Contemporary Christian Music Charts. His first music video was produced to accompany the song. It proved to be popular and was in great demand by video shows around the country. In 1986, Steve released his third musical offering, “Action,” a brilliant album produced by Skip Konte, Chris Christian, and Keith Thomas, featuring a duet with Solid Gold and Fifth Dimension star Marilyn McCoo. The song “Safe”, quickly climbed the charts to #2 nationally and was voted by Contemporary Christian Music Magazine’s year-end chart as the #4 song of 1986.
In 1998, the album “Stay Right Here” garnished a top 20 single on Inspo Radio with the title cut, followed seven years later with the critically acclaimed project “Call It Grace.” Steve still feels this was a landmark recording, containing seven brand new songs and four remakes of Archers classics that are simply not available on CD… this will be a special treat for longtime Archer fans!

Maximized Living Make-Over
May 10, 2011 by Worship Director.
Join Dr. Kelsie Keen at Community Bible Fellowship on Saturday, May 14, 10am – 1pm, for a 3 hour session on the 5 Essentials for maximized living. Improve your health - improve your ability to serve God.
The 5 Essentials are the core foundation of Maximized Living. Without any of these Essentials, you are unable to live a long, healthy and fulfilled life that you are meant to live. Each of these Essentials work together to keep your cells in optimal shape and your body functioning at its highest levels. If you only focus on one of these essentials, such as exercise, you are leaving out other core elements that keep your body healthy.
While each of the 5 Essentials may make sense to you at a high level, there are many things that you may not know. Get to know each of the following essentials and understand how they all work together and need to be practiced from the moment you wake up until the time you go to sleep each night.
Tickets are $30 per person which includes the workshop book of information, action steps and recipes for you. All remaining proceeds benefit CBF. Contact Us for more information or for tickets. Invite your friends!
