There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. – 1 John 4:18

We are born into fear.  As children, we are afraid of the dark.  As adults, we’re afraid of so much more.  Some will say that fear is the author of human motivation: fear of failure drives us to seek success, fear of the unknown urges us toward knowledge, fear of pain or death compels us in so many ways of thinking and acting both with bravery and cowardliness.

And so it may be in a world without a loving God that lights the darkness and drives away fear; that enables us to act with inexplicable love and unexpected courage even when faced with our greatest fears.  Some would chase away evil with scary tales, talismans or tricks, but the only sure way to drive away evil is through the fearless face of love.
