Looking Back

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.  Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. – Philippians 3:7-8

This time of year inevitably brings reflection on the passing of time, wins and losses, that which we count as credit or debit in the balance of our life.  Are possessions all we have gained this year?  Is a purchase your most memorable moment? Not likely. Things that seemed so important at the time, so quickly lose their luster.  The moments that matter are those that can’t be bought, don’t wear out with use, won’t expire or require an extended warranty.

In hindsight, the highest value is found in time spent with loved ones, a new life, a final good-bye, blessings completely unlooked for and undeserved. These are what matter in not just the past year, but throughout a lifetime.  As the new year arrives, remember to put your efforts into what will really matter most.
