Then He said to them all: Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.– Luke 9:23

The disciples had no idea what Jesus meant when He spoke these words to them. At the time, they were riding high on a wave of miracles, adoration and excitement. They could not conceive what was just around the corner, what price their leader would pay and what it would cost for them to continue to follow Jesus.

On Easter Sunday, we basked in the mountain top experience of the resurrection, but Jesus is clear – it is what happens tomorrow (and each tomorrow) that will show the world whose followers we are.  We must learn to live under the weight of the cross, to probably fall and crawl every day on a harsh and uncertain road, as the price we must pay to follow.
