Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen! – Luke 24: 5b-6
We don’t serve a dead god. What would be the point? Jesus did not come to establish a religion or instill a philosophy, as a mortal or martyr might do; but to develop a relationship with all mankind for all time. How could a dead god do that for even a day, let alone for centuries?
No, Jesus had to return to life to complete His mission. Relationship is for the living. So why do we still look for life among the dead practices of religiosity, accepting the mundane instead of expecting the miraculous? Why do we compact our big, boundary-less God into a small box constructed by our limited understanding, faulty faith and partial perceptions? The resurrection we celebrate is the evidence of a limitless, loving, living God. He is risen indeed and that is what makes the difference in our lives.
