“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true (facts or reality) whatever things are honest
(fair ) whatever things are just (morally right) whatever things are pure(unmixed) whatever things are lovely (pleasing or delightful) whatever things are of good report (praise worthy) if there be any virtue and if there be any praise; ‘think’ on these things.” (Phil. 4:7-8)
Definition: Thought is defined as the act of thinking (inclusive answer)
Thoughts are the beginning of any great achievement that humankind has dared to attempt; one is advised not to engage in thoughts that are not in accordance with God and his Word; and in the best interest of self and neighbor. What we think of can range from constructive to destructive, so, thinking wholesome thoughts make the difference between right or wrong. “A person cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and indirectly, yet, surely, shape his circumstances (James Allen)
Reflection: We live in a world where “men’s hearts are failing them for fear.” (Luke 21:26) Listening and looking at “Breaking News” has the potential to make people physically and mentally sick. Paul calls the Philippians to think on things that will enhance their lives; now, that doesn’t come natural, but with the Holy Spirit’s help it can be done.
Prayer: God, teach us how to be positive thinkers; as we search for virtue in life and offer you praise, may we experience the peace that surpasses understanding; and keep our minds focused on you in everyday life. Amen!
