All In

Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping His feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. – John 12:3

Mary was “all in.” In this scene, she had given to Jesus from her treasure, not just a small portion, but an extravagant gift. She sacrificed her pride, kneeling at His feet and drying them with her hair.

In earlier scripture, another Mary committed her time to listening to the Master even when social conventions expected her to tend to household instead of the heart. Commitment is not the easy route, but it is also not without reward.

The “fragrance” of Mary’s commitment filled the house, everyone in it, an all of us even today.
